ERTH 130: Geological Hazards

Description

This introductory course covers the causes of, and effects from, earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanic eruptions, landslides, rockfalls, and other natural phenomena.

Prerequisites

Qualified for ENG 100.

  1. Explain the cause of natural hazards such as earthquakes, volcanoes, landslides, storms, waves, and meteor impacts.
  2. Identify dangerous places where natural hazards have often occurred.
  3. Identify and explain the methods used to observe and monitor potential natural hazards, including tools, technologies, and data sources.
  4. Describe why it is challenging to accurately predict natural hazards.
  5. Describe how you and your community can prepare for natural hazards.
