HWST 207: Hawaiian Perspectives in Ahupua‘a Resource Management

Description

This course is an examination of the ahupua‘a system as it was conceptualized by the ancient Hawaiians, and an exploration of its relevance in modern society. This course will emphasize ‘Āina based learning.

Prerequisites

"C" or higher in HWST 107.

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of the traditions and applications of one or more Hawaiian food production systems.
  2. Describe the significance of one or more traditional practices and how they are implemented in today’s world.
  3. Describe Hawaiian perspectives in resource management and geography.
  4. Describe Hawaiian epistemological approaches to land, places, and geography.
  5. Describe and discuss the current resource management practices which augment or negate ancient practices.
