Description
This course is a survey of American history from the Paleolithic era through the Civil War, focusing on social history - seeking to tell the story of America "from the bottom up." Students will examine major events, trends and themes in the American past from multiple perspectives and will produce a piece of original research on the early American world.

Qualified for ENG 100.

- Describe, analyze and interpret the major themes in American history from the pre-Columbian period through the colonial era, the American Revolution, early 19th century and the Civil War periods.
- Produce an original research paper, utilizing both primary and secondary sources.
- Identify important individuals and events in American history through the Civil War.
- Analyze primary source documents.
